Part 2: Audience Persona Analysis

Cathryn

Cathryn is 22 years old senior student at the University of California, Los Angles. She lives in the hall with her roommate. She is a full-of-life young woman who loves music, fashion and dancing, but recently, because of soon-to-be graduates, she has been busy with her thesis and job-seeking. She has no time to develop her hobbies. Cathryn wants to find a good job and work hard to have a higher social status.

Meanwhile, she could balance her life and work to pursue something she loved rather than be bombarded by work all the time. This is a big challenge for her; since she began her senior year, she barely has time to relax, which makes her feel out of breath; every day is heavy, and she feels unhappy. One day, she went back to the dorm from the library, and her roommate had just come back from yoga class. She felt admired that her roommate could do what they wanted. She stood in front of the mirror, looked at exhausted herself, then upset, lay on the bed, sighed profoundly, and clicked on YouTube. While browsing the videos, she saw her favorite idol Selena Gomez come to Millennium Dance Complex to dance. It is very close to her. The confident and beautiful Selena Gomez attracted her in front of the camera. She thought that even though she loves dancing, she never gets a start because she feels she cannot manage her time well under intense study. But now she decided to go to this dance studio to try. Early next morning, she came to MDC. As a beginner, she received a detailed and professional guide. All of the students here are full of enthusiasm, encourage each other and are united together. After class, she decided to study dance and plan college life. She gradually realized that she could do well. Thanks for dancing pushed her to think about managing her time and being efficient and productive. She met many people here; they come from different fields and are even busier. They give her many helpful advice.  She felt better about her own life. Working, studying, dancing and practicing every day is rich but funny. Because of dance, she found herself. Now she is preparing a dance show for her company’s anniversary. She also gained appreciation from her employers.

Emma

Emma is 27 years old; her highest degree is a Master’s earned from the University of Southern California; she married during her senior in college right after graduation without any break.  Immediately, she gave birth to two lovely children Mason and Mia. Meanwhile, she did a great job in her work. Thus, she barely has time to think about herself, to enjoy her own life. She dances 14 years before college but has not stepped into the dance studio for nine years. She hopes she can dance one day, but whenever she sees her children, she gives up this idea. The dull and repeated life gradually makes her feel crazy; she wants her husband could take care of the children and help her share some housework. But her husband's daily work is also cumbersome, and he has paid a lot for the family. She wanted to be considerate, so she never complained. One afternoon, she went to the supermarket to purchase. On the way back, she passed the big screen of the shopping mall in the city center. She saw a dance class video of Millennium's Dance Complex. The red wall studio, confident students, great atmosphere…… All of them made her feel familiar and exciting. She desperately bought a cart of food and arrived at Millennium's studio. It was a thrill to try a choreography class. She had studied ballet before. Millennium's style was very innovative and combined the elements of ballet and hip-hop. She can digest even the advanced class courses but still could get in touch with new things. She felt young, positive, and energetic again, which makes her happy. She realized she needed to give herself some space and love life again. She decided to have a good talk with her husband and asked him to allow her to continue to pursue her dreams. When she returned home, she said what had happened today and how she wanted to dance. Her husband showed great support and promised he would do more household tasks and take care of the children.

She has a beautiful life now; at least she loves it. No busy work, no heavy household tasks, she can make time every day to practice dancing and go to the MDC studio to take class twice a week. Now she always says, I have found life pleasant and amusing again. Thanks, MDC and myself!
